Elderly Care Options

I am a current college student and have always wondered to myself how will I ever repay my parents for all the care they have given me over my life thus far.  They have always been there for me and supported my every move in life no matter what, but how do I repay them? 

One Saturday night I was talking to an old man and we conversed for countless hours about everything from political to local restaurants.  Some how, we got onto the topic of how to repay parents.  He told me, I don't want money, not even presents from my kids.  I want assurance that I will be taken care of at home once I old.  Suddenly it hit me that this old man was right.  How empty and lonely would you feel if no one was there to take care of you.

Today there are many different options for the elderly.  First off individuals can do it on there own but it is extremely hard for the stresses and duties of everyday life.  Nursing homes or residential homes would be another option.  This would provide the person care but not so personable.  One of the best ways to take care of your loved ones is through home care services.  They are located all over the United States and can be found simply through Google.  If you come to the point in life where you begin thinking about different alternatives, definitely look into in home care services.

Care for Seniors and the Alzheimer's Association

I work at a non-medical health care company in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania and everyday is exciting.  The staff is unbelievable and dedicated to our clients and one another.  Yesterday I got an e-mail from the President of the company stating that they are starting a Facebook campaign.  How exciting!  This campaign is quite simple, he is willing to donate $.50 for every "like" they receive on Facebook.  The donations will be going to the Alzheimer's Association.  It is for such a great cause and I wish more people would understand how easy it is just to like the page and help contribute to the cause.

The company I work for is  At Home Senior Services.  Anyone interested please be so kind and rely the message to others (Search for the company on Facebook).  The company provides non-medical in home senior care and daily companionship for you or your loved one.

Lastly I hope everyone is having a great Ash Wednesday and the start of lent.  It's always exciting and a challenge to give up something until Easter!  

Family Visit

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is home of the Steelers.  Many know it as the city of champions or six-burgh because of the Steelers six Superbowl rings.  I am a not a local Pittsburgh "yinzer" (as they call it) but am originally from across the state around the Harrisburg area.  This past weekend my family members came out for a visit to see what the city is all about.

It is a lot different than our home back East.  There is so much to do within the area.  Since Pittsburgh has a rich history in coal mining I took them on the famous incline.  The incline is a cable powered car which takes individuals to the top Mount Washington which overlooks the city.  My family enjoyed it very much and we took many pictures with the beautiful view in front of us.

Later that afternoon after we had grabbed a bit to eat, at Primanti Brothers, we visited the Pittsburgh Zoo.  News was out that a baby gorilla had been born and we could not pass out the opportunity to see the new born.  Supposedly it is the first gorilla born in the Pittsburgh zoo since 2001!  It is fascinating that this baby gorilla can call it's home Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

At Home or Work Relaxing Techniques

Today many of people feel lost with all the stresses of everyday life and situations at home.  There is so much to do in one day.  You think to yourself when am I going to have to get everything done!  The everyday routine takes a toll on the human body.  Average routines consist of getting up, making breakfast, getting the kids to school, work 9-5, cook/eat dinner, then the day is over!  Trying to squeeze in other activities is just brutal which causes many headaches...

Sometimes you just need to relax.  Sitting at work I sometimes take breaks to relax, mainly every couple hours taking 10 to 15 minutes mind relaxer.  Here are some of the things I have found very helpful. 

1) Tilt head back and look at ceiling.  Close your eyes and focus on breathing.  Inhale and exhale concentrating on every breath.

2) Another breathing exercise I found very relaxing is breathing in then holding it in for 5 seconds.  Then exhale for another 5 seconds.

3) Rub temples and imagine a place you would love to visit or be at.

4) Stand up and do some stretches.  Reach for the sky, bend down touch toes, or swift side to side.

Try these out and see if they help out and relax you. I know they have and it has improved in my moods and overall happiness.
